What is Clean Eating?

Clean Eating is a very simple and logical principle, but it turns out that I have mistakenly assumed that everybody who comes to my blog is familiar with it. So here is a little intro:
When Clean Eating you are expected to eat 5-6 small meals a day, but the more important aspect of Clean Eating is by far what you eat.

  • You have to avoid white sugar, period. You can substitute it with brown sugar, stevia, organic sucanat, organic blue agave nectar or unsweetened applesauce. However, sweeteners should always be consumed with caution.
  • You have to forget about ever consuming any pre-packaged meals. They are full of preservatives and sugar. So preparing your own meals is a must.
  • You have to throw out any foods that are refined, that means white flour, white rice, white breads, pasta made out of white flour etc. etc. You will substitute them with whole grain carbohydrates like whole wheat flour, kamut and spelt flour, quinoa, whole grain couscous.
  • You will eat lean protein in the form of chicken, turkey, fish, tofu, beans and legumes.
  • You will limit or eliminate completely saturated and trans fats of animal source, by cutting out fat meats, butter, full fat dairy.
  • You will stick to reasonable portion size. If you are able to eat 5-6 meals a day it only makes sense that your servings cannot exceed what can fit into a palm of your hand.
  • You will make complex carbohydrates coming from vegetables the main attraction of your meal.

Apart from what goes into your mouth it’s also important to incorporate physical activity into your lifestyle.
